Ukraine—Two ethnic Chinese adherents of the Falun Gong, Ms. Yizheng Li and Mr. Kai Jiang appealed to the Ukrainian authorities for political asylum because of China’s communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong; they were refused and are at imminent risk of deportation to China.

Zhaoyu Jin is a Chinese girl in her twenties. She met her Finn husband Tommi in China in 2004. July 2008, Zhaoyu came to Finland to visit Tommi’s family. However, just as she arrived in Finland, her mother was arrested in China right before the Beijing Olympic Games because her mother practices Falun Gong. The Chinese policemen broke into their house to search for Falun Gong literatures. After that, Zhaoyu’s younger sister was the only person left home. In early 2009, Zhaoyu’s mother Chen Zhenping was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

(Clearwisdom.net) The Huanggu District Court of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, planned to hold a "trial" of Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Wu Yufeng, Mr. Zheng Yi, Mr. Lin Huaiyu, Mr. Zhao Guoliang, Mr. Cai Zongbin, and Ms. Liu Guifeng on February 6, 2009. Before the court convened, all ten attorneys involved in the case received phone calls from the city judicial bureau and the district judicial office. The judicial authorities threatened the attorneys, telling them not to defend their clients' claims of innocence, or to challenge court decisions in the case.

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is an independent review of the human rights records of all 192 UN Member States once every four years. UPR was a program created by the Human Rights Council, intended for all states to use to openly show the various actions that they have taken to improve their domestic human rights situation and the challenges they have to overcome to ensure human rights.
