A Letter to Honorable South Korean President Mr. Lee Myung-bak
President Lee Myung-bak
110-820 1 Cheongwadae-ro,
Jongno-gu, Seoul
South Korea
Dear Honorable South Korean President Mr. Lee:
My name is Yubin Gui. I am a Chinese immigrant in Canada and currently work as a certified engineering technologist in Ontario. After obtaining a Ph.D. from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2002, I secured a position in one of South Korean Samsung’s China branches – Suzhou Samsung Electronics Ltd. In October 2003 I was sent to Samsung Global Management Institute for a training program in the south of Suwon city, South Korea, but could not return to China after completing the program because of the persecution from China Communist party (CCP)’s secretive police. When I was forced to resign from Samsung in South Korea, as my visa would be due to expire at that time. I almost lost my most basic identification, so had to seek refugee status through Daegu refugee office in the end of 2003. After the refuge officer Mr. Kim heard my case, he did careful investigation and concluded that I as a Falun Gong practitioner would be persecuted if I went back. He mentioned since my case possessed adequate proof, he would like to submit it to his headquarters soon. He estimated that my refugee application should be approved very quickly. But half a year later, he said he did not realize that his headquarter had a particular policy in dealing with Falun Gong practitioners, therefore my application was unlikely to be approved. Mr. Kim helped me get a Korean Identity Card, so I could live in Korea temporarily. |
In May 2005, the situation changed suddenly. The Korean Department of Justice started to reject the refugee applications from over 100 Falun Gong practitioners who had to live in Korea due to the severe persecution in China. It is said that the previous president Mr. Roh Moo-hyun met with the CCP’s foreign minister Tang Jiaxuan in Moscow and attained a shadowy agreement with Tang regarding not supporting Chinese Falun Gong practitioners who lived in Korea. I was one of the Falun Gong practitioners who were first rejected after Roh Tang meeting, and I appealed to South Korea government at once.
Since I had applied for Canadian immigration from Seoul Canadian Embassy before that, I could safely arrive at Canada in the end of November 2005. Canada government is one of the countries that condemned CCP’s persecution and I obtained my safety and freedom here. But the other over 100 Falun Gong practitioners who were rejected for refugee application in South Korea, are currently in grave danger.
Mr. President you are very clear on the masses living in dire poverty owing to the tyranny of the communist government in North Korea; people must to escape to outside. The CCP work in collusion with North Korea government due to the same communist totalitarian nature, CCP has arrested lots of North Korean refugees and sent them back to North Korea, which then jailed, tortured or killed such people for trying to run away. However, the South Korean government has neglected the pressure from North Korea and CCP and persisted in supporting North Korean refugees. This great righteous action is appraised in the international community and has also garnered support from the South Korean people.
The CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is not inferior to North Korea’s persecution. UN, Amnesty International and many international media recorded and reported limitless Falun Gong practitioner torture cases. Here I would like to introduce the persecution of my friend Lei Jiangtao, who was illegally arrested and sentenced to a 7 year term. I invited Shanghai’s famous human right lawyer Guoting Guo defend him, but Guo was deported overseas since he tried to defend Falun Gong practitioners in China’s corrupt legal system. It is obvious from this case that Falun Gong practitioners seek refugee status in South Korea are because of sheer desperation. I urge Korean government support Falun Gong practitioners, similar to the support given to North Korea refugees, and help Falun Gong practitioners re-establish themselves in South Korea.
In middle of 2005 while still in South Korea I remember I made a phone call to CCP’ Shangdong police for appealing to stop torturing Falun Gong practitioner, a CCP policeman mentioned the president (that time being) Mr. Roh Moo-hyun had good relation with CCP and reminded me to be careful myself, which really surprised me at that time. This year Mr Roh’s tragedy is mournful. However there are limitless historical precedents: being a president or an ordinary person, whomever has lost their basic conscience and moral principles for temporary benefit, would suffer retribution.
Luckily I met Mr. Stephan Harper who was busy with Canadian Federal Election after I came to Canada in the end of 2005. When he offered to shake hands with me, I stated my wish “help China Falun Gong practitioners”. Mr. Harper nodded and agreed that it is a big issue. He won that election and since 2006 Mr. Harper wrote letters in support of Falun Gong every year under CCP’s pressure. Here is a recent support letter from Mr. Harper:
Prime Minister Harper Sends Greetings for Falun Dafa Month
. In 2008 election, Mr. Harper obtained serving for another term of office; personally I believe it is owing to his basic conscience in dealing Falun Gong issue. A good man is a good leader and everyone can support one who shows compassion to others.
Recently, according to media reports, South Korean Justice Dept started to repatriate Falun Gong practitioners who applied for refugee status in South Korea after CCP official Li Changchun visited South Korea. About 100 Falun Gong practitioners’ lives are in danger right now, because CCP has continued to persecute Falun Gong to this day. On consideration of such repatriations being not consistent with the UN refuge convention signed by South Korean government, the relevant law made by South Korean government in 2008, and on the merits of the a basic conscience as a democratic country, I hope Honorable president Mr. Lee Myung-bak bring attention on this matter, help to stop the repatriation of Falun Gong practitioners, and investigate the corrupt officials’ black deals with CCP.
dear sir,
I am please to beg you if you consider further more about reparting those people practicing Falun Gong. Their live in your hands. If you send tem back to China you never heard their news any more. they will be end up in labor camp, torture and their organ can be harvested. please give them help.
sicerely yours
Manuh I Wayan
